Officially opened to the public in the summer of 2005, the 'Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ/Bimhuis, located on the river 'het IJ' in the heart of Amsterdam, houses two music auditoriums, the offices of several cultural institutions, and a café with arguably one of Amsterdam's finest terraces. The building, designed by Danish architects 3xN, is surveyed through four sections, which include full page colour photographs, plans and sections, and an essay by Hans Ibelings. An accompanying CD, containing music performed at the premiere, captures the atmosphere of the opening.
